Southern Cooking- many say it can be passed down from generation to generation, but you must put the “love” in it to make it tasty .The recipe for this mouth-watering dish was a staple at one of Alabama's most celebrated food events, the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival in Moulton, which ended its nine-year run in 2013.

Famous Barbecue Chicken

  • 2 tablespoons vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 4 tablespoons water

  • 1 teaspoon mustard

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 large chicken, cut into pieces

Mix vinegar and remaining ingredients together over medium heat. When sauce is heated, place chicken in the sauce and coat well.

Grill the chicken over indirect heat for about 40 minutes. Add sauce during the last 10-15 minutes depending on how “charred” you wish it to be.

  • Grill chicken breasts until their internal temp reaches 165° F.

  • Grill chicken legs, wings, or thighs until their internal temp reaches 180° F.

Oven Method- if unable to grill

Line a baking dish with foil and place the chicken in it. Seal the chicken with the foil.

Bake at 500 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce to 350 degrees, and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes until done.
